Here I am in sunny Miami Beach. I would love to introduce you to my latest collections of fresh, contemporary paintings and collages. If you’d like to see these just click AVAILABLE PAINTINGS . Buying artwork for your home or office is important. You want to enjoy it for a long time, have lots of interesting conversations, talk about it with your friends and family….that’s asking a lot! BORROWED - some lovely orange watercolor paint mixed up originally for another artwork I’m working on. BLUE - come on 😁😁😁 .. you know there’s got to be blue here. I’m a blue kinda gal. . PORT OUTSTARBOARD HOME - Watching the cruise ships and the container ships fearlessly glide into the Port of Miami is indeed a sight to behold. And then the huge chains and cantilevers and wires and ropes used to load and unload create a beautiful geometry against the blue sky and the warm sunshine. And now the megalithic cruise ships carry passengers off to exotic locations. Of course for a little extra…. You can have a cabin with a wonderful view Portside Out and homeward its Starboard Home. ON THE ROCKS - well much as I love a cool cocktail ‘On The Rocks’, these rocks in this gorgeous painted collage are the kind you sit near, get into the ‘zone’ and gaze out to a distant horizon, skimming over the tops of splashes and waves, glistening in the sunlight. She is 20”x24” using mixed media on heavy paper and mounted onto a canvas panel. I think she makes quite a Splash. But what do you think? THE URBAN BEACH VIEW - Beach and urban views are starkly different, yet here in Miami Beach they meld into an identity that has become famous around the world….And yet, here am I deconstructing those views and creating something new and unknown. In collage I am always tearing painted papers apart. In this deconstructed series I’m creating work that only represents an abstracted version of what came previously. What I love is that this series works as a visual puzzle and can be interpreted by viewers in any way they choose. I am finding a style to express my imagination and pushing the viewers to engage with their own. . I hope you like this very bold painted collage measuring 24” x 20 on a canvas panel. DROPS IN THE OCEAN - An experimental collage created from a compilation of the many marks, shapes and moves I observed looking out from South Point Pier in Miami Beach. Returning to the studio I tried to capture the essence of the beautiful views I had experienced in a more graphic, abstract manner. The feel, the movements, the lines and the flows of the ocean and the water’s edges too. . She is approximately 18” x 20” and may form the basis for a larger work….she will be the starting point for the story which will try to encompass the beauty I could see and how I felt. WILD AND FREE - Just like the Sea. Yes this painted collage follows on from my last post inspired by a view of the dramatic entrance to Miami Sea Port. Part of the defenses for the port are gigantic boulders arranged to challenge the rising tides and the erosion of the shoreline…. Both put up a valiant fight to take control, but the ocean will always win in the end. . And yet - earlier today on my morning run along the beach walk, the splendor and beauty of the ocean showed no aggression, just a mirror like surface with the beauty of sparkling shards of sunlight bouncing off gently. No provocation, just calm. How I love the sea. . Hope you like this captured image using acrylic and heavy paper on stretched canvas 30” x 24”. It’s deconstructed to create a daring abstract of Ocean v Rock, a style allowing me to express my passion for the subject and also serves my imagination well. Please let us know what you think. MAKING A SPLASH- I tried to capture the splosh and splash of the indigo waters colliding with the giant boulders at the edge of Miami Sea Port. The energy and power of the ocean never ceases to amaze and captivate me. Making watery marks with ink and acrylic on a giant sheet of paper gave me the space to move boldly across the surface. Cutting these all up into fairly large fragments allowed me to put this together in an unexpected way. After all the ocean always holds so many surprises. URBAN DISTORTIONS - working with two very different artworks again with little connection, provoking each other at the start of this journey. They finally found some common ground, only after some cutting up, ripping and manipulation. Architectural elements appeared, washed with some pastel tones and a few contrasting marks. Miami Beach holds those elements so well in the Art Deco district. The urban beauty alongside the magnificence of the ocean will forever be a wonderful source of inspiration for me. . ALWAYS EXPLORING - good things do come in small packages like these 9”x 12” deconstructed collages. They started out as sparks of ideas, using ripped up up fragments of older work teased and nurtured into these jewel like artworks enhanced with delicate chiffon-like watercolor. I’ve been doing some of this for years but my new body of work is dominated by this process and I haven’t run out of ideas yet!! The spray painted blocks you see in this beautiful collage came first and the painted background came later. IT SEEMS LIKE FOREVER - It’s been over six weeks since I posted. I needed a break from the nagging annoyance WITH the way IG runs their algorithm. Less than 10 percent of my followers were receiving my posts and I was missing out on many posts from all you lovely friends on IG. CHAMELEON - so my last post is still evolving. She is leaning up on my easel deciding if we are ‘there’ yet. I’m not sure if we have reached the end of our journey but it’s been a hell of a ride. We are now taking a rest from each other. In time we’ll get together to see what might happen next. This surprising collage has at least 13 layers and countless color palettes applied. She’s a risk taker and as I know only too well that doesn’t always work out well. But …. you learn a lot from the views en route. What do you think? Please leave us a like or a comment.
